Job Description:

Provides care of patients as a surgical technologist/ technician.
Provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other personnel in maintaining standards for professional practice in the clinical setting.
Evaluates and improves the quality, consistency, and efficiency of the assigned specialty and contributes to the educational and collaborative goals of Baptist Health Paducah.
JOB DUTIES - Assessment and identification of patient needs, implementation of appropriate interventions, delegation of surgical technician/technologist care duties and supervision as needed.
Assures that surgical tech care interventions and activities are directed to resolve problems and perform technical aspects of care competently (aseptic technique, safe equipment operation, patient positioning and patient and staff safety).
Serve as a technical resource person.
Maintain adequate and appropriate inventories of supplies.
Evaluate new products/procedures.
Demonstrate computer literacy and competence in use of existing technology.
Work with registered nurses, orderlies, and other staff to perform post-case cleaning duties.
Identify and implement process improvements.
Work with Specialty RN Coordinator to update preference cards/resource maps.
Establish clinical competencies for new hires and staff involved with assigned specialty.
Make recommendations to the nurse manager and educator of the progress in skill acquisition to be expected by a new employee and existing employees delivering care in the assigned specialty.
Initiate, maintain, and/or manage communication regarding subjects including specialty case start times, issue resolution, and staff and training updates.
Possess reporting skills, attention to detail, time management skills, communication skills, interpersonal skills, and team building skills.
Problem solving skills for standardization of the operating process in order to ensure efficiency.
Maintain all required competencies with surgical services.
Trained yearly on age specific care and completes core competencies for patient populations designated in the Scope of Service.
Follows Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITY Surgical Technologists/Technicians must graduate from a Surgical Technologist program or have comparable military training.
Certification is required.
Must demonstrate good leadership qualities.
Supervised by the Department Director, Nurse Manager and Charge Nurse on shift worked.
